BALSTA-project meeting in Slovenia

Last week I took part in BALSTA (Bridging Academically Language & Skills Training Agendas) Comenius Project at Srednja Gostinska in Turistična šola

The first meeting for the BALSTA project was officially launched in Malta in 2005.
The aims of this project are to bring together the teaching of technical subjects and the promotion of the English language within the various vocational areas; to develop new pedagogical tools that encourage content and language integrated learning and to increase the employability of the students who will benefit from the result of this project.
The participating countries are Malta, Finland, France, Slovenia and Italy.
The fourth meeting was held at Srednja Gostinska in Turistična šola (High school for Tourism and Catering) in Radovljica, Slovenia on the 26th March.
During this week-long meeting the following topics were discussed: the methodology behind co-tutoring and co-planning lessons, guidelines on applying this methodology, the layout of the manual to be produced and choosing the logo. New teachers’ exchanges between Slovenia to Finland, Finland to Malta and Malta to France will take place at predetermined dates. The milestones to be reached by the group by the next project meeting to be held in Italy in November were also set; these included the dissemination of the methodology to teachers who are not directly participating in the project.
A national evening at school restaurant was organized; it was attended by the Maltese honorary consul Smilka Ksenija Klešnik, teachers from High school for design, High school for electronics, Classical gymnasium and Mojster Janez from the traditional printing press, complemented by some typical culinary delicacies and animation by the host country.
